Work-Energy Theorem for Motion Along a Curve

O trabalho realizado para deslocar um objeto ao longo de um caminho curvo é igual à mudança na energia cinética do objeto. Este é o teorema da energia do trabalho.
Considere uma bola presa a uma corda de massa insignificante, inicialmente em repouso. À medida que a bola é lançada, ela balança, traçando um caminho circular.
Um diagrama de corpo livre pode ser desenhado para entender as forças que atuam na bola em qualquer ponto arbitrário de seu caminho.
O trabalho realizado pode ser encontrado integrando o produto do componente de força ao longo do deslocamento e do deslocamento.
Colocando a força e o deslocamento em função do deslocamento angular e integrando a expressão da posição inicial para a final, obtém-se a expressão do trabalho realizado.
O trabalho é igual à mudança na energia cinética da bola.

O teorema trabalho-energia pode ser generalizado para o movimento de uma partícula ao longo de qualquer caminho curvo. O argumento neste caso é que o caminho curvo pode ser considerado como uma soma de muitos caminhos infinitesimais, cada um desses um caminho reto. A força na partícula pode ser considerada constante ao longo de qualquer caminho infinitesimal desse tipo, de modo que o teorema trabalho-energia possa ser aplicado a ele. Portanto, ele também é válido para a soma desses caminhos. O trabalho líquido realizado é a integral do trabalho realizado ao longo dos caminhos infinitesimais, e a mudança total na energia cinética é a soma de todas as mudanças.

Deve-se notar que, para o movimento ao longo de um caminho curvo, a força pode não necessariamente estar ao longo da curva. Ou seja, a força pode ter duas componentes: uma ao longo da tangente da curva e outra perpendicular a essa tangente. A força que realiza trabalho na partícula e, como resultado, muda sua energia cinética, é a força tangencial. A integral de linha do produto escalar da força e do elemento de linha infinitesimal fornece o trabalho.

The work-energy theorem can be applied to motion along a curved path. A curved path can be treated as many tiny straight paths added together. On each small part, the force can be taken as constant, so the work-energy theorem can be used there.

The total result comes from adding the work done along all of those small path segments. The net work is found with an integral, which adds the work from each infinitesimal path. The total change in kinetic energy is the sum of the changes along the way.

For curved motion, the force may not point along the curve. It can be split into two components: one tangent to the curve and one perpendicular to the tangent. Only the tangential force does work on the particle and changes its kinetic energy. The work is written as a line integral of the dot product of the force and the infinitesimal line element.
