Para determinar a potência instantânea absorvida pela carga da planta, a análise é realizada em um circuito no domínio do tempo conectado em Y.
As tensões de fase têm uma diferença de fase de 120 graus e a raiz quadrada de dois é usada para converter tensões de pico em valores RMS para uma análise precisa da potência.
Quando uma máquina opera, ela extrai corrente da fonte de alimentação, levando a um atraso de fase entre as correntes de fase e suas tensões de fase correspondentes.
A potência instantânea total consumida pela carga da máquina é calculada somando a potência instantânea em cada uma das três fases.
A potência instantânea total obtida permanece quase constante e não muda com o tempo. Isso permite o cálculo da potência ativa, reativa e aparente por fase.
A potência ativa total é a soma das potências ativas em três fases. Da mesma forma, a potência reativa e aparente total é calculada.
Esses resultados são válidos para cargas conectadas em Y e delta.

A potência complexa, que combina potência ativa e reativa por fase, também representa um terço da potência complexa total.

Equivalência em cálculos de potência:

As configurações Delta e Estrela possuem tensões e correntes em todas as fases e linhas. Nessas configurações, as cargas são conectadas a cada fase na extremidade da carga. A potência consumida pela carga e a equivalência entre as configurações estrela e delta se estendem aos cálculos de potência. Seja em um sistema conectado em estrela ou em delta, a potência total é a soma da potência em cada uma das três fases. Power in a Three-Phase Circuit

Balanced three-phase power calculation depends on the wye and delta connections used in the circuit. A wye, or star, configuration can use three wires or four wires. A delta configuration connects the components in a closed loop. These connection types change how voltages and currents are arranged, but both are used in three-phase systems.

In a balanced three-phase system, instantaneous power is the power at one exact moment. Even though the power in each phase changes over time, the total instantaneous power stays constant. The three phase powers add together in a steady way because the system is symmetric and the phases are shifted from one another.

The same one-third relationship applies to average power, reactive power, and complex power. The average power in each phase is one-third of the total average power. The reactive power per phase is also one-third of the total reactive power. Complex power, which combines active and reactive power for each phase, is likewise one-third of the total complex power.

These power rules apply to both wye-connected and delta-connected loads. In both configurations, the load is connected to each phase at the load end. The total power is the sum of the power in the three phases. It can be found by using the known relationships between line voltage, phase voltage, line current, and phase current in either a wye or delta system.
