Quando uma partícula se move ao longo de uma trajetória curva, seu movimento pode ser descrito usando componentes tangenciais e normais. Ambos os componentes estão ligados à partícula e se movem com ela.
Para o eixo n, o caminho curvo da partícula é dividido em vários segmentos de arco diferentes. Cada segmento forma o arco de um círculo com um raio de curvatura e um centro de curvatura.
O eixo n é normal ao eixo t, e seu sentido positivo aponta para o centro da curvatura, definido com o vetor unitário un.
O positivo do eixo t é definido ao longo da posição crescente da partícula no caminho e é denotado usando um vetor unitário, ut.
A velocidade da partícula é sempre tangente ao caminho do movimento curvilíneo e tem apenas um componente t.

Simultaneamente, o eixo n, perpendicular ao eixo t, disseca o caminho curvo em segmentos diferenciais de arco, cada um formando o arco de um círculo com um raio de curvatura e um centro de curvatura. A direção positiva do eixo n aponta em direção ao centro de curvatura, designado pelo vetor unitário u_n.


 Por outro lado, a componente normal está relacionada com a curvatura da estrada. O eixo n, perpendicular ao eixo t, está envolvido na dissecação do caminho curvo em pequenos segmentos de arco diferencial. Cada um desses segmentos forma o arco de um círculo com um raio de curvatura específico e um centro de curvatura. A direção positiva do eixo n aponta para o centro desta curvatura e é definida pelo vetor unitário u_n. Este componente ajuda a descrever como o carro está se desviando de uma trajetória em linha reta devido à curvatura da estrada.

Curved path motion is described with tangential and normal axes. These car-centered coordinates move with the vehicle as it travels. The t-axis points in the direction of increasing position along the curved path. The n-axis is perpendicular to the t-axis and points toward the center of curvature.

The path can be split into tiny arc segments. Each segment matches part of a circle with a radius of curvature and a center of curvature. The positive n-direction uses the unit vector u n . This normal component shows how the car departs from a straight-line path because of the road’s curvature.

The car’s velocity stays tangent to the road. That means it has only a t-component. When velocity is differentiated with respect to time, the car’s acceleration is found. Because the unit vector u t changes with time, the direction of u n also changes.

As a result, curvilinear motion has both tangential and normal components of acceleration. Together, these components give a fuller picture of how a car moves along a curved trajectory.
