O cubo se deforma em um paralelepípedo retangular, com lados iguais e deformação normal na direção dos eixos coordenados.
Os componentes de deformação são expressos em termos de componentes de tensão, considerando separadamente o efeito de cada componente de tensão e, em seguida, combinando esses efeitos, usando o princípio da superposição, assumindo que cada efeito está linearmente relacionado à sua carga e as deformações são mínimas.
Para carregamento multiaxial, as condições são satisfeitas se as tensões não excederem o limite proporcional do material e a tensão em qualquer face não causar deformações significativas para afetar os cálculos de tensão em outras faces.
Os componentes de tensão em cada direção causam deformação em suas respectivas direções e deformações nas outras duas direções.

Generalized Hooke's Law

A Lei de Hooke generalizada é uma versão ampliada da Lei de Hooke, que se estende a todos os tipos de tensão e em todas as direções. Considere um material isotrópico moldado em um cubo sujeito a carregamento multiaxial. Neste cenário, as tensões normais são exercidas ao longo dos três eixos coordenados. Como resultado destas tensões, a forma cúbica deforma-se num paralelepípedo rectangular. Apesar desta deformação, a nova forma mantém lados iguais e há uma deformação normal na direção dos eixos coordenados. Os componentes de deformação são deduzidos dos componentes de tensão. Este processo envolve considerar o impacto de cada componente de tensão individualmente e depois integrar esses efeitos.


 Este método utiliza o princípio da superposição, que assume que cada efeito está linearmente relacionado à sua carga e as deformações resultantes são menores. Multiaxial stress and strain describe how an isotropic material responds when forces act along more than one direction. A cube-shaped sample under normal stresses on the three coordinate axes can change into a rectangular parallelepiped. Even after this deformation, the sides remain equal, and normal strain appears along the coordinate axes.

The strain components are found from the stress components by studying each stress effect one at a time. The separate effects are then combined using the superposition principle. This approach assumes that each strain changes linearly with its load and that the deformation stays small.

These conditions are valid for multiaxial loading when the stresses do not go beyond the material's proportional limit. The stress on one face should also not create large deformations that would affect stress calculations on the other faces. Each stress component causes strain in its own direction and also strain in the other two directions. When these individual effects are added together, they give the strain components described by the generalized Hooke's law.
