Da mesma forma, suponha que a estrutura esteja sujeita a casais. Neste caso, o ângulo de rotação da estrutura no ponto de aplicação de um par é calculado diferenciando parcialmente a energia de deformação em relação ao par aplicado.
Para estruturas que sofrem torção devido a torques aplicados lentamente, o ângulo de torção para uma seção do eixo pode ser calculado tomando a derivada parcial da energia de deformação em relação ao torque aplicado.
Se uma viga com secções não uniformes sofre deformação devido ao carregamento, a energia de deformação é expressa em termos de uma integral. Aqui, a deflexão no ponto de aplicação da carga é calculada diferenciando a energia de deformação em relação à carga antes da integração.
