Um diodo ideal é um elemento de circuito não linear com o ânodo como seu terminal positivo e o cátodo como seu terminal negativo.
Quando uma tensão negativa é aplicada, nenhuma corrente flui. Isso é chamado de polarização reversa ou corte, onde o diodo atua como um circuito aberto.
Se uma tensão positiva for aplicada, o diodo se comporta como um curto-circuito com queda de tensão zero. Esse estado é chamado de viés de encaminhamento ou ativado.
O diodo ideal exibe características lineares IV por partes com dois segmentos de linha reta a 90 graus um do outro.
Ao contrário dos diodos ideais, os diodos práticos exibem uma pequena queda de tensão polarizada para frente e uma corrente de fuga polarizada reversa diferente de zero.
O diodo ideal usado em circuitos retificadores converte CA em CC. Durante os semiciclos positivos do sinusóide de entrada, o diodo conduz e a tensão de saída é igual à tensão de entrada.
Durante os semiciclos negativos, o diodo não conduz, resultando em tensão de saída zero.
Assim, a tensão de saída retificada é unidirecional e tem um valor médio finito ou um componente DC.

Embora os diodos reais tenham alguma queda de tensão quando polarizados diretamente e uma pequena corrente de fuga quando polarizados reversamente, o modelo de diodo ideal ignora esses aspectos para simplificar a análise do circuito. Este modelo é significativo em circuitos retificadores que convertem CA em CC. Durante ciclos positivos de CA, o diodo ideal conduz, tornando a tensão de saída igual à de entrada. Em ciclos negativos, ele bloqueia a corrente, levando a tensão de saída zero. The Ideal Diode

An ideal diode is a simple model of a semiconductor diode used to show how current moves through circuits. A diode has two terminals. The anode is positive, and the cathode is negative. In this model, current can flow only in one direction.

When a positive voltage is applied to the anode relative to the cathode, the diode is forward-biased. In that state, it conducts current. When the cathode is at a higher potential than the anode, the diode is reverse-biased. It then blocks current and acts like an open switch.

The ideal diode is shown with a piecewise linear I-V curve, or current-voltage curve. One part is a vertical line that shows current flow during forward bias. The other part is a horizontal line that shows no current flow during reverse bias. This sharp change leaves out the gradual curve seen in real diodes. It also ignores the voltage drop in forward bias and the small leakage current in reverse bias.

This simplified model is useful for circuit analysis, especially in rectifier circuits that change AC into DC. During the positive part of an AC cycle, the ideal diode conducts and the output voltage matches the input. During the negative part, it blocks current and the output drops to zero. The result is a DC output that many electronic devices need for steady power.
