Normalmente, o concreto é misturado usando misturadores de batelada ou misturadores contínuos.
Os misturadores de lote processam um lote completo de cada vez, misturando os ingredientes e descarregando-os antes que o próximo lote seja introduzido. Existem quatro tipos de misturadores de lote: misturadores de tambor basculantes, misturadores de tambor não basculantes, misturadores tipo panela e misturadores de tambor duplo.
Um misturador de tambor basculante usa lâminas internas para misturar concreto, descarregando a mistura inclinando o tambor. Ao contrário, um mixer de tambor não basculante descarrega a mistura através de uma calha ou invertendo a rotação do tambor.
A mistura de concreto em lotes pode ser feita em um misturador tipo panela usando pás ou em um misturador de tambor duplo envolvendo um processo de mistura de dois estágios dentro de uma configuração tandem de tambores.
Os misturadores contínuos recebem automática e continuamente os ingredientes, que são então combinados uniformemente usando um misturador tipo tambor ou uma rosca que se move dentro de uma carcaça estacionária, resultando em uma saída constante de concreto misturado.
Por fim, para garantir a eficiência do misturador em produzir uma mistura uniforme, amostras em pontos de descarga específicos são coletadas e avaliadas quanto à consistência.

Mixing Concrete

A mistura de concreto garante uma mistura homogênea onde os agregados são bem revestidos com pasta de cimento. A mistura de concreto é normalmente feita usando dois tipos principais de misturadores: lote e contínuo. Os misturadores de lote lidam com um lote de cada vez, combinando completamente os materiais antes de descarregar e receber o próximo lote. Em contraste, os misturadores contínuos recebem um fluxo constante de ingredientes, misturando-os consistentemente e descarregando sem interrupção. Dentro dos misturadores de lote, os misturadores de tambor basculante misturam com lâminas internas e descarregam por inclinação, enquanto os misturadores de tambor não basculante usam uma calha ou rotação reversa para esvaziar. Misturadores do tipo panela, com pás girando em torno de um eixo vertical, e misturadores de tambor duplo, permitindo a mistura sequencial em dois tambores, também são comuns em operações de lote. Os misturadores de concreto estão disponíveis em uma ampla gama de capacidades que variam de 0,04 metros cúbicos a 12,99 metros cúbicos. Concrete mixing creates a uniform blend of cement, aggregates, and paste. The goal is to coat the aggregates evenly with cement paste. Mixers used for this job are usually grouped into two main types: batch mixers and continuous mixers.

Batch mixers handle one load at a time. They mix the materials thoroughly, discharge the batch, and then receive the next one. Continuous mixers work differently. They take in a steady flow of ingredients, mix them at a constant rate, and discharge the concrete without stopping.

Several batch mixer designs are common. Tilting drum mixers use internal blades and empty by tilting the drum. Non-tilting drum mixers discharge through a chute or by reverse rotation. Pan-type mixers use paddles that rotate around a vertical axis. Dual drum mixers allow the material to pass through two drums in sequence.

Mixer size also matters. Concrete mixers come in many capacities, from 1.5 cubic feet to 17 cubic yards. Using only a small part of the mixer can be inefficient and may lead to an uneven mix. Overloading the mixer by more than 10% can also reduce uniformity.

To check mixer performance, samples are taken from different discharge points. These samples are tested for consistency using measures such as density, air content, slump, and compressive strength. This helps show whether the mixer produces the same quality mix across batches.
