Controls in Experiments

Элементы управления в эксперименте — это элементы, которые остаются постоянными и не зависят от независимых переменных. Контроль необходим для объективного и точного измерения зависимых переменных в ответ на лечение.
Например, у пациентов, поступающих в больницу с высокой температурой, затрудненным дыханием, кашлем, простудой и сильной болью в теле, подозревают инфекцию COVID. Но также возможно, что другие респираторные инфекции вызывают те же симптомы. Итак, врач рекомендует пройти тест на COVID.
У пациента собираются мазки из носа, и проводится тест на COVID. Кроме того, поддерживается контрольный образец, не имеющий вирусной РНК COVID. Этот тип контроля еще называют негативным контролем. Это помогает предотвратить ложноположительные результаты в образцах пациентов.
Положительный контроль является еще одним часто используемым типом контроля в эксперименте. В отличие от отрицательного контроля, положительный контроль содержит реальный образец – вирусную РНК. Это помогает сопоставить наличие вирусной РНК в исследуемых образцах, а также подтверждает процедуру и точность теста.

Контроль в экспериментах

При проведении эксперимента крайне важно иметь контроль, чтобы уменьшить систематическую ошибку и точно измерить зависимые переменные. Это также делает результаты более достоверными. Контрольные элементы — это элементы эксперимента, которые имеют те же характеристики, что и экспериментальные группы, но на которые не влияет независимая переменная. Распределив данные по контрольным и экспериментальным условиям, можно определить взаимосвязь между зависимыми и независимыми переменными. Рандомизированный эксперимент всегда включает контрольную группу, которая получает неактивное лечение, но в остальном управляется точно так же, как и другие группы. Контрольная группа помогает исследователям сбалансировать эффекты участия в эксперименте и эффекты активного лечения.

В клинические или диагностические процедуры для подтверждения результатов испытаний включаются положительные контрольные группы. Положительный контроль показал бы ожидаемый результат, если бы тест сработал так, как ожидалось. Отрицательный контроль не содержит основного ингредиента или лечения, но включает все остальное. Например, в тесте RT-PCR на COVID отрицательный образец не включает вирусную ДНК. В экспериментах часто используются положительные и отрицательные контроли, чтобы предотвратить или избежать ложноположительных и ложноотрицательных результатов.

why control groups improve experiment results

Control groups help experiments produce more reliable results. They reduce bias and make it easier to measure the dependent variable. In an experiment, controls have the same features as the treatment groups but are not affected by the independent variable.

Researchers sort data into control and experimental conditions to see the relationship between the independent and dependent variables. A randomized experiment includes a control group that receives an inactive treatment. The control group is otherwise managed the same way as the other groups. This helps balance the effects of being in an experiment with the effects of the active treatments.

Controls are also important in clinical and diagnostic tests. Positive controls are used to confirm that a test gives the expected result when it works correctly. A negative control does not include the main ingredient or treatment, but it includes everything else. For example, in a COVID RT-PCR test, a negative sample does not include viral DNA.

Using positive and negative controls can help prevent false positive and false negative reports. These controls make test results more trustworthy and help researchers validate their findings.
