Если на объект действует несколько сил, то сумма моментов всех сил, действующих на тело, может быть выражена как результирующий момент системы. Результирующий момент можно рассматривать как векторную величину, которую можно складывать и вычитать, как любой другой вектор.

Результирующий момент системы сил можно вычислить с помощью векторной формулировки. Например, если мы рассмотрим две силы, F1 и F2, действующие на столб в точках A и B соответственно, результирующий момент этих сил может быть выражен как

MR = (rA x F1)+ (rB x F2).
