Второй закон Ньютона дает уравнение поступательного движения для твердого тела. Умножив его на временной интервал dt и интегрировав его по пределам интегрирования, мы получим уравнение для принципа линейного импульса.
Принцип линейного импульса гласит, что изменение импульса объекта прямо пропорционально приложенному к нему импульсу. Это уравнение можно представить с помощью трех прямоугольных компонентов.
С другой стороны, уравнение для вращательного движения можно записать как производную по времени от произведения момента инерции вокруг центра масс объекта на его угловую скорость.
При этом момент инерции постоянен; преобразование этого уравнения в интегральную форму приводит к принципу вращательного импульса.

Impulse and angular momentum help describe a rigid body moving in a plane. This motion combines translation and rotation. The topic uses Newton's second law to connect force, momentum, and motion.

For translational motion, the equation is written for the center of mass, labeled G. When this equation is multiplied by a small time interval, dt, and integrated, it gives the principle of linear impulse. This principle shows that a change in momentum is proportional to the impulse applied to the body. The result can also be written in three rectangular components.

Rotational motion is treated in a similar way. The time rate of change of the product of the moment of inertia about the center of mass and the angular velocity gives the rotational equation.
