Если элемент вращается на угол, его напряженные составляющие изменяются. Это изменение определяется рассмотрением призматического элемента с гранями, перпендикулярными его осям.
Учитывая площадь косой грани, площади вертикальной и горизонтальной граней могут быть рассчитаны с помощью тригонометрических функций угла поворота.
Представлены силы, действующие на эти грани, и предполагается, что никакие силы не действуют на треугольные грани элемента. Уравнения равновесия затем записываются с использованием компонент вдоль повернутых осей.
После решения этих уравнений получаются нормальные напряжения и напряжения сдвига. Затем нормальные напряжения и напряжения сдвига повторно выражаются с помощью тригонометрических соотношений.
Выражение для нормального напряжения на повернутой вертикальной оси получается путем подстановки угла поворота в одном из предыдущих выражений на новый угол.
Замечено, что сумма нормальных напряжений, действующих на кубический элемент, остается независимой от ориентации элемента.

Трансформация плоского напряжения

Изучение трансформации напряжений важно для понимания того, как компоненты напряжения внутри материала, например в кубе, находящемся под плоским напряжением, изменяются при вращении. Это изменение анализируется путем рассмотрения призматического элемента внутри куба. По мере вращения элемента действующие на него компоненты напряжений — как нормальные, так и касательные — изменяются по величине и ориентации. Эти изменения количественно определяются с помощью тригонометрических функций угла поворота, связывающих силы, действующие на грани повернутого элемента, с силами на его исходных перпендикулярных гранях. 

Уравнения равновесия, сформулированные с учетом только сил на гранях, перпендикулярных главным осям (исключая любые силы на треугольных гранях, возникающие из-за вращения), позволяют вывести новые компоненты напряжения. Нормальные и касательные напряжения выражаются через исходные напряжения.

Новое выражение для нормального напряжения на повернутой вертикальной оси получается путем замены угла поворота в предыдущем выражении на новый.

Примечательным результатом этого анализа является то, что сумма нормальных напряжений не меняется независимо от ориентации кубического элемента. Эта инвариантность подчеркивает изотропную реакцию материала на внешние напряжения и имеет решающее значение для прогнозирования поведения материала в различных условиях нагрузки. Понимание того, как компоненты напряжения трансформируются в зависимости от ориентации элементов, имеет крайне важное значение для прогнозирования режимов разрушения материалов и проектирования материалов и конструкций, которые более устойчивы к приложенным нагрузкам.

Transformation of Plane Stress

Plane stress changes with rotation in a material element. The analysis looks at a prismatic element inside a cube under plane stress. As the element turns, the normal stress and shearing stress on its faces change in both size and direction.

These changes are described with trigonometric functions of the rotation angle. The forces on the rotated faces are compared with the forces on the original faces that are perpendicular to each principal axis. The equilibrium equations use only the forces on those perpendicular faces, not the forces on the triangular faces created by the rotation.

From this balance, the new stress components can be written in terms of the original stresses. The normal stress on the rotated vertical axis is also found by using a new angle in a previous expression. One important result is that the sum of the normal stresses stays the same, no matter how the cubic element is oriented.

This invariant sum shows the material’s isotropic response to external stress. It helps explain how stress components shift as orientation changes. That understanding is important for predicting failure modes and for designing materials and structures that can better handle applied loads.
