Первоначально сворачивание выполняется путем создания зеркального отражения входного сигнала по оси y. За этим следует небольшой сдвиг, умножение и интегрирование полученных сигналов. Полученная свертка изображается графически.
В свёртке дискретного времени отклик определяется подачей входных данных в систему дискретного времени и использованием интеграла импульсной характеристики и свертки.
Свертка дискретного входного сигнала и импульсной характеристики образует сумму свертки для отклика системы.

Свертка: математика, графика и дискретные сигналы

В любой системе LTI (линейной, не зависящей от времени системе) свертка двух сигналов обозначается с помощью оператора свертки, в предположении, что все начальные условия равны нулю. Интеграл свертки можно разделить на две части: нулевой вход или естественный отклик и нулевой статус или вынужденный отклик, где t_0 обозначает начальное время.

Для упрощения интеграла свертки предполагается, что и входной сигнал, и импульсный отклик равны нулю для отрицательных значений времени. Графический процесс свертки включает четыре шага: свертывание, сдвиг, умножение и интегрирование.

Рассмотрим RC-цепь с заданным входным импульсным сигналом и выходным откликом. Первоначально свертывание выполняется путем создания зеркального отображения входного сигнала вдоль оси y. Затем следует сдвиг, при котором свернутый сигнал скользит вдоль оси времени. Затем умножение свернутого и сдвинутого сигналов выполняется по точкам. Наконец, интегрирование полученного сигнала по времени дает результат свертки. Этот процесс можно изобразить графически.

В дискретной временной свертке реакция системы определяется путем подачи входного сигнала на дискретную временную систему и использования импульсной характеристики и суммы свертки. Свертка дискретного входного сигнала x[n] и импульсной характеристики ℎ[n] формирует сумму свертки для реакции системы:

Convolution describes how a linear time-invariant, or LTI, system responds to an input signal. In an LTI system, the convolution of two signals is written with a convolution operator. The method assumes that all initial conditions are zero.

The convolution integral can be split into two parts. These are the zero-input response, also called the natural response, and the zero-state response, also called the forced response. The initial time is marked as t0. To make the integral easier to work with, both the input signal and the impulse response are taken to be zero for negative time values.

Graphical convolution follows four steps: folding, shifting, multiplication, and integration. First, folding makes a mirror image of the input signal along the y-axis. Then the folded signal is shifted, or slid, along the time axis. After that, the folded and shifted signals are multiplied point by point.

The last step is integration over time, which gives the convolution result. This process can be shown graphically for an RC circuit with a given input pulse signal and output response. The same idea also appears in discrete-time systems. There, the input signal x[n] and the impulse response h[n] are combined with the convolution sum to find the output y[n] at each discrete time step n. Knowing both continuous and discrete convolution helps describe LTI system behavior for different inputs.
