Composite panels use two parallel surface veneers with a core made from densely packed, reprocessed wood fibers. Oriented strand board, or OSB, is made from long wood shreds that are compressed and bonded into three to five layers. In each layer, the strand direction is arranged to copy the grain pattern used in plywood.
