We report a 32-year-old female with eating disorder whose body weight was only 20 kg. She was admitted to the hospital with severe low nutrition, low proteinemia, liver dysfunction, hypokalemia and hypoglycemia. On the third hospital day, she had a high fever and Campylobacter fetus subsp. fetus (C. fetus) was isolated from the blood. After treatment with meropenem (1 g/day) intravenous drip injection, her condition improved. C. fetus sepsis is not common disease in Japan. A review of 37 cases of this disease in Japan revealed that the age range of adult patients was 20 to 60 years old. The male-to-female ratio was 4.6 to 1.0. Seventy-eight percent of the patients had underlying diseases which were composed of 11 patients with liver disease, 6 patients with blood dyscrasia and some with diabetes mellitus, heart disease, other malignant tumor and collagen disease. There was no case with eating disorder. All apparent sources of infection in Japan originate from eating raw food. Gastrointestinal symptoms were observed in only 16% of the patients. Recent recommendations for the treatment of C. fetus sepsis are to use gentamicin, imipenem and meropenem. Some strains of C. fetus have resistance to erythromycin, ciprofloxacin. The mortality of this infection is 14% in Japan.

Lei &egrave; stato ammesso all&#39;ospedale con gravi scarsa nutrizione, proteinemia basso, disfunzione epatica, ipokaliemia e ipoglicemia. Il terzo giorno di ospedale, lei aveva la febbre alta e Campylobacter feto subsp. feto (c. feto) era isolato dal sangue. Dopo il trattamento con iniezione di fleboclisi di meropenem (1 g al giorno), migliorato la sua condizione. C. feto sepsi non &egrave; una malattia comune in Giappone. Una revisione di 37 casi di questa malattia nel Giappone ha rivelato che l&#39;intervallo di et&agrave; dei pazienti adulti &egrave; stato 20 a 60 anni. Il rapporto maschio-femmina era 4.6 a 1.0. Divulgamos a una mujer de 32 a&ntilde;os de edad con trastorno alimentario cuyo peso era de s&oacute;lo 20 kg. Ingres&oacute; al hospital con severa baja nutrici&oacute;n, proteinemia baja, disfunci&oacute;n hep&aacute;tica, hipocaliemia e hipoglucemia. En el tercer d&iacute;a de hospital, ella ten&iacute;a una fiebre alta y feto de subsp. feto de Campylobacter (C. feto) fue aislado de la sangre. Despu&eacute;s del tratamiento con la inyecci&oacute;n de goteo intravenoso de meropenem (1 g/d&iacute;a), su condici&oacute;n mejor&oacute;. Sepsis de C. feto no es una enfermedad com&uacute;n en Jap&oacute;n. Una revisi&oacute;n de 37 casos de esta enfermedad en Jap&oacute;n revel&oacute; que el rango de edad de pacientes adultos ten&iacute;a 20 a 60 a&ntilde;os. La relaci&oacute;n de hombre a mujer fue 4.6 a 1.0. 78% De los pacientes ten&iacute;a enfermedades subyacentes que se compone de 11 pacientes con enfermedad hep&aacute;tica, 6 pacientes con discrasias sangu&iacute;neas y algunas con diabetes mellitus, enfermedades del coraz&oacute;n, otras enfermedades malignas del tumor y el col&aacute;geno. No hubo ning&uacute;n caso con trastorno alimentario. Todas las fuentes de infecci&oacute;n en Jap&oacute;n aparentes originan comer alimentos crudos. During the last decade, Japan has experienced the largest burden of chemical terrorism-related events in the world, including the: (1) 1994 Matsumoto sarin attack; (2) 1995 Tokyo subway sarin attack; (3) 1998 Wakayama arsenic incident; (4) 1998 Niigata sodium-azide incident; and (5) 1998 Nagano cyanide incident. Two other intentional cyanide releases in Tokyo subway and railway station restrooms were thwarted in 1995. These events spurred Japan to improve the following components of its chemical disaster-response system: (1) scene demarcation; (2) emergency medical care; (3) mass decontamination; (4) personal protective equipment; (5) chemical detection; (6) information-sharing and coordination; and (7) education and training. Further advances occurred as result of potential chemical terrorist threats to the 2000 Kyushu-Okinawa G8 Summit, which Japan hosted. Today, Japan has an integrated system of chemical disaster response that involves local fire and police services, local emergency medical services (EMS), local hospitals, Japanese Self-Defense Forces, and the Japanese Poison Information Center.

Se desarroll&oacute; un sistema para el triaje inicial y descontaminaci&oacute;n de las v&iacute;ctimas de una liberaci&oacute;n qu&iacute;mica utilizando pinzas colores de los siguientes siete colores: rojo, amarillo, verde, negro, blanco y azul. Rojo indica la necesidad de atenci&oacute;n de emergencia, amarillo para el cuidado semi-emergency, verde para el cuidado de no-emergencia, negro para expectante, blanco para la descontaminaci&oacute;n seco y azul para la descontaminaci&oacute;n de mojado. We developed a neural network model for studying neural mechanisms underlying complex syntactical songs of the Bengalese finch, which result from interactions between sensori-motor nuclei, the nucleus HVC (HVC) and the nucleus interfacialis (NIf). Results of simulations are tested by comparison with the song development of real young birds learning the same songs from their fathers. The model shows that complex syntactical songs can be reproduced from the simple interaction between the deterministic dynamics of a recurrent neural network and random noise. Features of the learning process in the simulations show similar trends to those observed in empirical data on the song development of real birds. These observations suggest that the temporal note sequences of songs take the form of a dynamical process involving recurrent connections in the network of the HVC, as opposed to feedforward activities, the mechanism proposed in the previous model.

Developmental learning of complex syntactical song in the Bengalese finch: a neural network model.

Wir entwickelten ein neuronales Netz-Modell zur Erforschung der neuronaler Mechanismen komplexe syntaktische Lieder von der bengalischen Finch, die sich aus Wechselwirkungen zwischen Sensori-Motor-Kerne, den Zellkern HVC (HVC) und der Kern Interfacialis (NIf). Ergebnisse der Simulationen sind im Vergleich die Song-Entwicklung von real junge V&ouml;gel lernen die gleichen Lieder von ihren V&auml;tern getestet. Das Modell zeigt, dass komplexe syntaktische Lieder aus der einfachen Interaktion zwischen den deterministischen Dynamik eines wiederkehrenden neuronalen Netzes und Rauschen reproduziert werden k&ouml;nnen. Funktionen des Lernprozesses in den Simulationen zeigen &auml;hnliche Trends zu denen in empirische Daten &uuml;ber die Song real Vogelarten beobachtet. Diese Beobachtungen legen nahe, dass die zeitliche Tonfolgen Lieder die Form von ein dynamischer Prozess, der wiederkehrende Verbindungen im Netzwerk der HVC, im Gegensatz zu Feedforward-Aktivit&auml;ten nehmen, der Mechanismus im vorherigen Modell vorgeschlagen.

Abbiamo sviluppato un modello di rete neurale per studiare i meccanismi neurali complessi canzoni sintattiche di finch il Bengalese, derivanti da interazioni fra nuclei di sensori-motore, il nucleo HVC (HVC) e il nucleo interfacialis (NIf). Risultati delle simulazioni sono testati dal confronto con lo sviluppo di canzone di veri giovani uccelli imparando le stesse canzoni dai loro padri. Il modello mostra che canzoni sintattiche complesse possono essere riprodotto dalla semplice interazione tra la dinamica deterministica di una rete neurale ricorrente e rumore casuale. Caratteristiche del processo di apprendimento nelle simulazioni mostrano tendenze simili a quelle osservate nei dati empirici sullo sviluppo canzone degli uccelli reali. How the brain learns and generates temporal sequences is a fundamental issue in neuroscience. The production of birdsongs, a process which involves complex learned sequences, provides researchers with an excellent biological model for this topic. The Bengalese finch in particular learns a highly complex song with syntactical structure. The nucleus HVC (HVC), a premotor nucleus within the avian song system, plays a key role in generating the temporal structures of their songs. From lesion studies, the nucleus interfacialis (NIf) projecting to the HVC is considered one of the essential regions that contribute to the complexity of their songs. However, the types of interaction between the HVC and the NIf that can produce complex syntactical songs remain unclear. In order to investigate the function of interactions between the HVC and NIf, we have proposed a neural network model based on previous biological evidence. The HVC is modeled by a recurrent neural network (RNN) that learns to generate temporal patterns of songs. The NIf is modeled as a mechanism that provides auditory feedback to the HVC and generates random noise that feeds into the HVC. The model showed that complex syntactical songs can be replicated by simple interactions between deterministic dynamics of the RNN and random noise. In the current study, the plausibility of the model is tested by the comparison between the changes in the songs of actual birds induced by pharmacological inhibition of the NIf and the changes in the songs produced by the model resulting from modification of parameters representing NIf functions. The efficacy of the model demonstrates that the changes of songs induced by pharmacological inhibition of the NIf can be interpreted as a trade-off between the effects of noise and the effects of feedback on the dynamics of the RNN of the HVC. These facts suggest that the current model provides a convincing hypothesis for the functional role of NIf-HVC interaction.

Cependant, les types d&#x26;#39;interaction entre le VHC et le FNI qui peut produire des complexes chansons syntaxiques restent floues. Afin d&#x26;#39;&#xE9;tudier la fonction des interactions entre le CHV et du FNI, nous avons propos&#xE9; un mod&#xE8;le de r&#xE9;seau neuronal bas&#xE9; sur des preuves biologiques pr&#xE9;c&#xE9;dente. Le CHV est mod&#xE9;lis&#xE9; par un r&#xE9;seau neuronal r&#xE9;current (RNN) qui apprend &#xE0; g&#xE9;n&#xE9;rer des sch&#xE9;mas temporels de chansons. Le FNI est mod&#xE9;lis&#xE9;e comme un m&#xE9;canisme qui fournit une r&#xE9;troaction auditive &#xE0; l&#x26;#39;HVC et g&#xE9;n&#xE8;re un bruit al&#xE9;atoire qui se nourrit dans le HVC. Le mod&#xE8;le a montr&#xE9; que complexes chansons syntaxiques peuvent &#xEA;tre r&#xE9;pliqu&#xE9;s par des interactions simples entre la dynamique d&#xE9;terministe du bruit RNN et al&#xE9;atoire. Dans l&#x26;#39;&#xE9;tude actuelle, la plausibilit&#xE9; du mod&#xE8;le est test&#xE9;e par la comparaison entre les changements dans les chants d&#x26;#39;oiseaux r&#xE9;els induits par l&#x26;#39;inhibition pharmacologique de la FNI et les changements dans les chansons produites par le mod&#xE8;le r&#xE9;sultant d&#x26;#39;une modification des param&#xE8;tres repr&#xE9;sentant du FNI fonctions. Die HVC wird durch ein wiederkehrendes neuronales Netz (RNN) modelliert, die lernt, zeitlichen Muster der Lieder zu generieren. Die NIf ist als Mechanismus modelliert, die bietet ein auditives Feedback zu den HVC und Rauschen, das in der HVC feeds generiert. Das Modell hat gezeigt, dass komplexe syntaktische Lieder von einfachen Interaktionen zwischen deterministischen Dynamik der RNN und Rauschen repliziert werden k&ouml;nnen. In der aktuellen Studie wird die Plausibilit&auml;t des Modells durch den Vergleich zwischen den Ver&auml;nderungen in den Liedern von tats&auml;chlichen V&ouml;gel induziert durch pharmakologische Hemmung der NIf und die Ver&auml;nderungen in den Liedern produziert durch das Modell, die infolge der &Auml;nderung von Parametern, die NIf-Funktionen getestet. Die Wirksamkeit des Modells zeigt, dass die &Auml;nderungen induziert durch pharmakologische Hemmung der die NIf Lieder als ein Kompromiss zwischen den Auswirkungen von L&auml;rm und die Auswirkungen des Feedbacks auf die Dynamik der RNN der HVC interpretiert werden k&ouml;nnen. Diese Fakten deuten darauf hin, dass das aktuelle Modell eine &uuml;berzeugende Hypothese f&uuml;r die funktionale Rolle der NIf-HVC-Interaktion bietet.

La producci&#xF3;n de canto de los p&#xE1;jaros, un proceso que implica complejas secuencias aprendidas, proporciona a los investigadores un excelente modelo biol&#xF3;gico para este tema. El pinz&#xF3;n bengal&#xED;, en particular, se entera de una canci&#xF3;n muy compleja con la estructura sint&#xE1;ctica. El n&#xFA;cleo de HVC (HVC), un n&#xFA;cleo pre-motora en el sistema de la canci&#xF3;n aviar, desempe&#xF1;a un papel clave en la generaci&#xF3;n de las estructuras temporales de sus canciones. De los estudios de la lesi&#xF3;n, el interfacialis n&#xFA;cleo (NIF) que se proyecta a la HVC se considera una de las regiones esenciales que contribuyen a la complejidad de sus canciones. Sin embargo, los tipos de interacci&#xF3;n entre el HVC y el NIF que puede producir complejas canciones sint&#xE1;cticas siguen sin estar claros. Con el fin de investigar la funci&#xF3;n de las interacciones entre el VHC y el NIF, hemos propuesto un modelo de red neuronal basada en la evidencia biol&#xF3;gica anterior. El VHC es modelada por una red neuronal recurrente (RNN) que aprende a generar patrones temporales de las canciones. El NIF se modela como un mecanismo que proporciona retroalimentaci&#xF3;n auditiva a la HVC y genera ruido aleatorio que se alimenta en el HVC. El modelo mostr&#xF3; que las canciones sint&#xE1;cticas complejas pueden ser replicados por las interacciones simples entre la din&#xE1;mica determinista del ruido RNN y al azar. En el estudio actual, la verosimilitud del modelo es probado por la comparaci&#xF3;n entre los cambios en los cantos de los p&#xE1;jaros reales provocados por la inhibici&#xF3;n farmacol&#xF3;gica de la PEV y los cambios en las canciones producidas por el modelo resultante de la modificaci&#xF3;n de los par&#xE1;metros que representan las funciones de NIF. The Tokyo subway sarin attack was the second documented incident of nerve gas poisoning in Japan. The St. Luke's International Hospital received 640 patients on the day of the attack. Reduction in plasma cholinesterase (ChE) activity was generally associated with the severity of acute signs of toxicity. With time and treatment, the value rose quickly. To evaluate possible residual signs of symptoms 1 year after the attack, we sent questionnaires to the victims; of 303 respondents, 45% still had some symptoms including eye problems, easy fatigability, headache, and fear. Therefore, we conducted a study in collaboration with investigators at the Tokyo University Department of Public Health to evaluate possible long-term neuropsychological sequelae. The findings suggest the need to closely follow such patients for possible persistent functional changes.

Bird species with vocal learning possess a projection from the telencephalic nucleus to the nucleus nervi hypoglossi, pars tracheosyringealis (XIIts) in the medulla, where a final common pathway that controls the vocal organ, i.e., the synrinx, originates. The anatomical basis of this projection has not been well investigated in one species of songbird, the Bengalese finch (Lonchura striata var. domestica). The present study used anterograde and retrograde tracing experiments to examine and describe this projection in Bengalese finches. Following iontophoretic injections of biotinylated dextran amine into the telencephalic nucleus robustus arcopallialis (RA), we detected anterograde-labeled terminations in the XIIts. In addition, labeled terminals were seen in other vocal-respiratory-related nuclei, such as the dorsomedial nucleus of the nucleus intercollicularis, nucleus infraolivaris superior, nucleus of the rostral ventrolateral medulla, nucleus parambigualis, nucleus ambiguous, and nucleus retroambigualis. Furthermore, following injections into the XIIts, we detected retrograde-labeled cell bodies scattered throughout the ipsilateral RA. The present results revealed that the direct projections of the RA to the XIIts in male Bengalese finches are similar to those in other songbirds with vocal learning abilities.

Nach Iontophoretic Injektionen von biotinylierten Dextran Amin in den Teleenzephalischer Kern-Robustus-Arcopallialis (RA) erkannt wir Anterograde beschrifteten K&uuml;ndigungen in der XIIts. Dar&uuml;ber hinaus wurden die beschriftete Klemmen in anderen Vocal-Atemwege-bezogenen Kernen, z. B. der Dorsomedial Kern der Kern Intercollicularis, Kern Infraolivaris Superior, Kern der K&ouml;rperabschnitt ventrolateral Medulla, Kern Parambigualis, Kern mehrdeutig und Kern Retroambigualis gesehen. Dar&uuml;ber hinaus erkannt wir nach Injektionen in die XIIts, retrograde-markierten Zelle K&ouml;rper verstreut die ipsilaterale RA Die vorliegenden Ergebnisse gezeigt, dass die direkten Projektionen des RA zu der XIIts m&auml;nnlichen Bengalisch Finken auf &auml;hnlich denen in anderen Singv&ouml;geln mit Gesang Lernf&auml;higkeit.

Eine direkte neuronale Verbindung zwischen der Teleenzephalischer Nukleus-Robustus-Arcopallialis und der Nucleus Nervi Hypoglossi, pars Tracheosyringealis in Bengalisch Finken (Lonchura Striata var. Domestica).

Specie di uccelli con apprendimento vocale possiedono una proiezione dal nucleo telencefalici al nucleo nervi hypoglossi, pars tracheosyringealis (XIIts) nel midollo, dove una via finale comune che controlla l&#39;organo vocale, vale a dire, la synrinx, originario. La base anatomica di questa proiezione non &egrave; stato ben studiata in una specie di songbird, il fringuello Bengalese (Lonchura striata var. domestica). Il presente studio utilizzato anterograda e retrograda traccia esperimenti per esaminare e descrivere questa proiezione nei fringuelli Bengalese. A seguito di iniezioni iontophoretic di ammina Destrano biotinilato nel nucleo telencefalici robustus arcopallialis (RA), abbiamo rilevato terminazioni anterograda-etichettati nella XIIts. Inoltre, morsetti contrassegnati sono stati osservati in altri nuclei vocal-respiratori, come il nucleo dorsomedial del nucleo intercollicularis, superior infraolivaris nucleo, nucleo del midollo ventrolateral rostrale, nucleo parambigualis, nucleo ambiguo e nucleo retroambigualis. Inoltre, a seguito di iniezioni nella XIIts, abbiamo rilevato retrograda-etichettati corpi cellulari sparsi AR omolaterale. I presenti risultati hanno rivelato che le proiezioni dirette del RA di XIIts nel maschi fringuelli Bengalese sono simili a quelli di altri uccelli canori con le abilit&agrave; di apprendimento vocale.

Las especies de aves con el aprendizaje vocal posee una proyecci&#xF3;n desde el n&#xFA;cleo a la telencef&#xE1;lica hypoglossi n&#xFA;cleo de Nervi, pars tracheosyringealis (XIIts) en la m&#xE9;dula, donde una v&#xED;a final com&#xFA;n que controla el &#xF3;rgano vocal, es decir, el synrinx, se origina. La base anat&#xF3;mica de esta proyecci&#xF3;n no ha sido bien investigado en una especie de p&#xE1;jaro cantor, el pinz&#xF3;n bengal&#xED; (Lonchura striata var. Domestica). El presente estudio se utilizaron experimentos de rastreo anter&#xF3;grada y retr&#xF3;grada para examinar y describir esta proyecci&#xF3;n en los pinzones bengal&#xED;es. Despu&#xE9;s de las inyecciones de iontofor&#xE9;ticos de biotina dextrano amino en el n&#xFA;cleo de telencef&#xE1;lica robustus arcopallialis (AR), que hemos detectado anter&#xF3;grada con etiquetas en las terminaciones XIIts. Adem&#xE1;s, los terminales marcadas se ve en otro vocal-respiratoria relacionada con n&#xFA;cleos, tales como el n&#xFA;cleo dorsomedial del n&#xFA;cleo intercollicularis, n&#xFA;cleo infraolivaris superiores n&#xFA;cleo, de la m&#xE9;dula ventrolateral rostral, el n&#xFA;cleo parambigualis, n&#xFA;cleo ambiguo, y retroambigualis n&#xFA;cleo. Adem&#xE1;s, despu&#xE9;s de las inyecciones en los XIIts, hemos detectado retr&#xF3;gradas marcados con cuerpos celulares dispersos por toda la ipsilateral AR. Los presentes resultados revelaron que las proyecciones directas de la RA a los XIIts en machos pinzones bengal&#xED;es son similares a los de otros p&#xE1;jaros con vocales capacidad de aprendizaje.
