Wuqiang Zhu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, The University of Alabama at Birmingham. He received his M.D. degree from Hubei Medical University, and a Ph.D. degree from the Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology. After several years of clinic training in China, Dr. Zhu came to the United States and started his 2nd Ph.D. training in the laboratory of Dr. Loren Field (Indiana University). Upon the completion of his Ph.D., he received the postdoc training in the laboratories of Dr. Gangjian Qin (Northwestern University), Dr. Loren Field (Indiana University), Dr. Jop van Berlo (University of Minnesota), and Dr. Jianyi “Jay” Zhang (University of Minnesota). Dr. Zhu started his first faculty position in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, The University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2015. The research in his laboratory is mainly focused on myocardial regeneration, stem cells, and cardiac tissue engineering. His laboratory is currently funded by National Institutes of Health and American Heart Association.
