Over the next 30 days as we explore our Science Education database on the JoVE blog, we want to hear from you and see how exactly you do your experiments.

Yesterday I introduced our “30 days of Science Education” campaign with a video demonstrating the DNA gel electrophoresis technique.  Now we want to see your work in action.

DNA Gel Electrophoresis 2
DNA gel electrophoresis is a technique used to separate and identify DNA fragments based on size.

To make it interesting, we’ve decided we’ll shell out a few bucks.  We want to know which labs out there are made up of the most creative/funny/intelligent scientists on the planet—and we want you to VISUALIZE this by sending us a photo.

Grab a camera and get your lab mates together to perform DNA gel electrophoresis. Then email that photo to phil.meagher@jove.com. Make me chuckle or inspire me to send that photo around the office, and you’ll be selected for a $50 prize and maybe a little something from our massive supply of JoVE swag—that could include t-shirts, yo-yos, JoVE hand sanitizer, or even JoVE a tote bag.

You have until December 1. Good luck!

In addition to confirming the presence of a DNA fragment of interest, DNA gel electrophoresis can be combined with gel purification procedures.

As a reminder, the Science Education database is available free through the end of 2013.
