Leasing and buying are two popular methods of acquiring assets such as vehicles, equipment, or property.
Many believe leasing is always cheaper due to its lower upfront and monthly costs.
However, this perception often arises from focusing on short-term expenses without fully accounting for the higher cumulative costs that leasing can entail over the asset's entire period of use.
In contrast, buying is often preferred for the perceived benefits of ownership.
While ownership can be advantageous for appreciating assets like real estate, it may not always be the best option for depreciating ones.
Leasing is practical for frequent upgrades or avoiding resale depreciation limits.
Leasing offers flexibility and lower upfront costs, while buying is better suited for long-term goals and equity building.
For instance, a business needing a delivery van might lease to conserve cash, avoid upfront costs, and allow upgrades. Alternatively, buying may be preferable for ownership and long-term value.
