The DNA Helix

يتكون الحمض النووي أو DNA من سلسلتين عَدِيْدُتي النوكليوتيد. كل واحدة منها مصنوعة من أربع أنواع من وحدات فرعية من النيوكليوتيدات والتي تتكون من مجموعة فوسفات واحدة وقاعدة تحتوي على النيتروجين،الأدينين A السيتوزين C جوانين G ثيمين T،مرتبطة بسكر دِيُوكسِي رِيبُوز. هذاالتَنْسِيق العمود الفقرى من السكر والفوسفات هو المكون لهيكل الحمض النووي عند الطرف المرقم ب3 من أحد الشريطين مجموعة الهيدروكسيل المنصبة على السكر ا عند ذرة الكربون الثالثة،هي على استعداد للإترتبط بشكل تساهمي بجزيء أخر من السكر بالسسلسة عند ذرة الكربون الخامسة عن طريق روابط ثنائي استر الفوسفور على الشريط المتواز ومتضاد في الاتجاه.تقترن كل قاعدة على نحو فريد C مع G و A مع T وهذا بسبب الإختلاف فى عدد الروابط الهيدروجينية المتكونة بينهم. ينتهي هذا الجانب المكمل للجانب الأخر ينتهي بمجموعة فوسفات عند النهاية المرقمة ب 5 تضمن هذه القطبية الكميائية الحَزْم الفعال فيلتف الشريطان على بعضها مكونان حلزون مزدوج ثلاثى الأبعاد بعشرة أزواج قاعدية كل لفة كاملة

حمض الديوكسي ريبونيوكلييك ، أو الحمض النووي ، هو المادة الوراثية المسؤولة عن نقل السمات من جيل إلى جيل في جميع الكائنات الحية ومعظم الفيروسات. يتكون الحمض النووي من شريطين من النيوكليوتيدات يلتفان حول بعضهما البعض لتشكيل حلزون مزدوج. حدث اكتشاف بنية الحمض النووي بشكل تدريجي على مدار ما يقرب من قرن من الزمان ، مما يمثل واحدة من أكثر القصص شهرة في تاريخ العلم.
