Dimensional Analysis

في تحليل الأبعاد ، تسمى الكتلة والطول والوقت بالأبعاد الأساسية ، ويمكن التعبير عن الكميات الفيزيائية في الميكانيكا من حيث الأبعاد الأساسية.

Dimensional analysis is a useful way to check physics and engineering equations. It works by writing physical quantities in terms of basic dimensions such as mass, length, and time. Quantities like velocity, acceleration, and force are derived from these basic dimensions.

This method helps compare measurements even when the units are different. It also checks whether an equation is dimensionally homogeneous. That means the powers of the fundamental dimensions must match on both sides of the equation.

Dimensional analysis can help find mistakes in math and test whether an equation makes sense. It can also be used to derive new equations by comparing the units on each side. A simple example is the force of a bat hitting a ball. Force depends on mass and acceleration, and acceleration is the change in velocity over time. Velocity is the change in displacement over time.

Two common approaches are Rayleigh’s method and Buckingham’s pi theorem. Rayleigh’s method is used to find an expression for a variable that depends on up to three or four independent variables. It is often used to derive empirical equations for physical systems. Buckingham’s pi theorem says that if there are n variables in a dimensionally homogeneous equation with m fundamental dimensions, they can be grouped into (n − m) dimensionless terms. This theorem is widely used in fluid mechanics and other areas of physics and engineering.
