Coso Framework

The COSO Framework is a widely used model for designing, evaluating, and improving internal control systems, particularly those supporting reliable financial reporting. It organizes internal control into five interconnected components: control environment, risk assessment, control activities, information and communication, and monitoring activities. In accounting, organizations use the framework to identify risks such as errors or fraud, establish preventive and detective controls, communicate relevant information, and assess whether controls operate effectively over time. Applying COSO helps strengthen financial statement accuracy, regulatory compliance, operational accountability, and governance while providing a common structure for internal auditors, management, and external reviewers.
