Ledger Posting

Ledger posting is the accounting process of transferring transaction information from the journal to the appropriate accounts in the general ledger, where each account’s activity is organized for financial reporting. For every journal entry, the recorded debit and credit amounts are posted to corresponding ledger accounts with the date, reference, and transaction details, allowing account balances to be updated systematically. This process creates a structured record of assets, liabilities, equity, revenue, and expenses, supports preparation of the trial balance and financial statements, and helps accountants identify errors, maintain accurate records, and trace transactions during review or audit.
