Behavioral Continuity

Behavioral continuity is the persistence of behavioral patterns across time, situations, or stages of development, linking earlier actions with later responses. It arises when learning, memory, reinforcement, and relatively stable individual or environmental conditions preserve tendencies while still allowing behavior to change. Studying behavioral continuity helps researchers distinguish enduring patterns from short-term reactions, examine how experience shapes future behavior, and compare behavior across developmental periods or contexts. The concept supports research in psychology, neuroscience, animal behavior, and behavioral ecology, where identifying consistency can clarify adaptation, individual differences, and the conditions that promote behavioral change.

This article presents a noninvasive biomonitoring system for the continuous recording and analyses of crayfish cardiac and locomotor activities. This system consists of a near-infrared optical sensor, a video-tracking module, and software for evaluating crayfish heartbeats that reflects its physiological condition and characterizes crayfish behavior during heartbeat fluctuations.

The Hawk-Dove Game ExpandNOTE: In this activity, you will play the hawk and dove game with a single partner and then with multiple partners to observe hypothetical costs and benefits of the antagonist or cooperative behavior respectively. Before the activity starts, review the cost-benefit table so that you understand how to score the game. Click Here to download Table 1 HYPOTHESES: The experimental hypothesis for this exercise could be that the dove strategy will become more frequent between...

RBDT: A Computerized Task System based in Transposition for the Continuous Analysis of Relational Behavior Dynamics in Humans

RBDT integrates behavioral patterns based on discrete responses (e.g., stimuli selection, placement of figures) and continuous responses (e.g., tracking of cursor movements, figure dragging) to study relational behavior with humans. RBDT is a challenging task based on transposition, in which the participant sets up stimuli compounds with a relational criterion (more/less than).

Batch and Continuous Bioreactors

2023

Bioreactors are used to grow organisms in large volumes, thereby enabling the production of mass quantities of the target product. These reactors can be batch reactors, which contain all of the components needed for cell growth, or continuous reactors, which have inlet and outlet ports allowing for the addition of fresh growth media and the removal of cell waste. This video presents batch and continuous reactors and demonstrates the use of bioreactors to grow bacteria in the laboratory.
