Gait Rehabilitation Assessment

Gait rehabilitation assessment is the systematic evaluation of walking ability to identify movement limitations and guide recovery after injury, illness, or neurological impairment. It examines gait patterns, balance, coordination, speed, and functional mobility through clinical observation and structured walking tasks, revealing how motor performance changes under different conditions. In behavioral research, these assessments help relate movement outcomes to practice, motivation, environmental demands, and adaptation. Clinicians use the findings to tailor rehabilitation programs, monitor progress, evaluate treatment effectiveness, and support safer, more independent mobility.

The aim was to substantiate optimal use of data collection techniques for Nordic walking gait and posture analysis. Three-dimensional motion capture should be used during short duration analysis (i.e. single gait cycle), while accelerometry should be employed for longer duration analysis (i.e. repeated cycles) like a 6 Minute Walk Test.
