Time Spent

Time spent is a behavioral measure that quantifies how long an individual engages in a particular activity, state, or interaction, making patterns of behavior easier to describe and compare. Researchers determine duration by recording when a behavior begins and ends, then summing these intervals across an observation period or experimental condition. In behavior research, time-spent measures can reveal preferences, attention, social engagement, activity allocation, or responses to environmental changes. Comparing duration across individuals, settings, or treatments helps researchers evaluate behavioral priorities, identify meaningful changes, and relate observed actions to learning, development, and adaptation.

The present study reports a protocol for chromosome screening of human embryos that uses spent culture medium, which avoids embryo biopsy and enables chromosome ploidy identification using NGS. The present article presents the detailed procedure, including the preparation of culture medium, whole genome amplification (WGA), next-generation sequencing (NGS) library preparation, and data analysis.

Generation Time

2025

Bacterial generation time, the period required for a bacterial population to double during its exponential growth phase, serves as a critical measure of microbial growth dynamics under optimal conditions. This parameter varies significantly across bacterial species and can be influenced by factors such as temperature, pH, and the availability of nutrients. For example, Escherichia coli can achieve a generation time of approximately 20 minutes, while Mycobacterium tuberculosis exhibits a much...

Mean free path and Mean free time

2025

Consider the gas molecules in a cylinder. They move in a random motion as they collide with each other and change speed and direction. The average of all the path lengths between collisions is known as the "mean free path." The mean free path varies inversely with the density of the molecules because when there are more molecules inside a volume, they have a greater chance of colliding with each other, thus reducing the mean free path. Additionally, the mean free path is inversely related to...

Mixing Time

The concept of mixing time is significant in producing a uniform concrete mix with the required strength. The mixing period starts once all components are in the mixer. Initially, the mixer is charged with 10% of the water, followed by the consistent addition of solids and then 80% of the water. The remaining water is added later, within the first quarter of the mixing period. The minimum mixing time varies according to the mixer's capacity; for example, mixers with up to 1 cubic yard capacity...
