Voice Feature Analysis

Voice feature analysis is the systematic measurement of acoustic and temporal properties in speech and vocalization, supporting objective assessment of how voices are produced and perceived. It typically processes recorded audio as waveforms or spectrograms to quantify features such as fundamental frequency, intensity, formant frequencies, and timing, which reflect vocal-fold vibration and vocal-tract resonance. In bioengineering, these measurements help characterize healthy and impaired phonation, evaluate rehabilitation or surgical outcomes, and guide the development of speech-processing and assistive communication technologies. By converting complex voice signals into interpretable data, the method enables reproducible comparisons across individuals, conditions, and interventions.

Source: Laboratory of Jonathan Flombaum—Johns Hopkins University How do people find objects in cluttered visual scenes? Think, for example, of looking for keys on a messy desk, finding the ripest-looking fruit at the grocery store, locating your car when you can’t quite remember where you parked it, or finding an old friend at an airport exit gate. Clearly, an understanding of visual perception is going to play a role in any answers, and more specifically, an understanding of visual attention...

Isoquants are curves that represent combinations of inputs (typically labor and capital) that produce the same level of output. The key features of isoquants include: Downward Sloping: Generally, isoquants slope downwards from left to right, indicating that as the quantity of one input increases, the quantity of the other must decrease to maintain the same level of output, reflecting the trade-off between inputs. Convex to the Origin: Isoquants are convex to the origin due to the diminishing...

Bonds can be purchased at par, discount, or premium, each reflecting the bond's current market value in relation to its par value. The 'par value' is the amount the bond will be worth at maturity. The 'market value' is the current price at which the bond is trading in the market. Bonds come with various features regarding flexibility, such as scalability, which allows the issuer to repurchase the bond before maturity, often at a premium price. This benefits the issuer during periods of falling...
