Wet Milling Homogenization

Wet milling homogenization is a particle-size reduction method that disperses solid materials in a liquid to produce a more uniform suspension, emulsion, or nanoscale formulation. During processing, mechanical shear, impact, and collision forces generated by milling media or high-speed equipment break down aggregates and reduce particles while the liquid phase limits heat buildup and supports dispersion. In bioengineering, this approach is used to prepare biologically relevant materials, drug formulations, cell-processing components, and biomaterial suspensions with improved consistency and surface area. Control of milling speed, residence time, solids concentration, and liquid composition helps tailor particle size and product stability for downstream research and manufacturing.

Test for Homogeneity

2023

The goodness–of–fit test can be used to decide whether a population fits a given distribution, but it will not suffice to decide whether two populations follow the same unknown distribution. A different test, called the test for homogeneity, can be used to conclude whether two populations have the same distribution. To calculate the test statistic for a test for homogeneity, follow the same procedure as with the test of independence. The hypotheses for the test for homogeneity can be stated as...

This workflow enables lamella production targeting fluorescently labeled biological structures that are small (<1 μm in axial extent) and rare (1 copy per cell) using a cryogenic tri-coincident imaging platform. This platform integrates fluorescence microscopy, focused ion beam milling, and scanning electron microscopy at a single focal position and enables simultaneous fluorescence microscopy while milling.
