Gold Particles Fiducial Markers

Gold particle fiducial markers are electron-dense reference particles used to track position, movement, and image distortion in biological microscopy. Because their strong, recognizable signal remains visible across successive images, software can identify the same particles and use their coordinates to align frames, correct sample drift, or reconstruct three-dimensional structures from multiple views. In electron microscopy and cryo-electron tomography, researchers place gold particles on or near specimens as stable landmarks during tilt-series acquisition. These markers improve registration accuracy and structural reconstruction, supporting studies of cellular architecture, macromolecular organization, and dynamic biological processes.

Gold Immunostaining of Exosomal Sections: A Technique to Visualize Diagnostic Markers in Exosomal Lumen

2023

In this video, we demonstrate gold immunostaining of biomarkers localized within the lumen region of ultrathin exosomal sections. This technique enables early diagnosis of diseases by visualization of target molecules within the exosomes secreted by the diseased cells.

Reverse Transcriptase Activity as a Marker for Virus-Like Particle Production

Source: Scarborough, R. J., et al. Evaluation of the Efficacy And Toxicity of RNAs Targeting HIV-1 Production for Use in Gene or Drug Therapy. J. Vis. Exp. (2016).This video demonstrates a reverse transcriptase (RT) assay to assess the effect of a test RNA on virus-like particle (VLP) production. Cells are co-transfected with plasmids, and RT activity is measured as a quantitative indicator of VLP output. A decrease in RT activity reflects suppression of viral gene expression by the test RNA.

Subatomic Particles

2020

Dalton was only partially correct about the particles that make up matter. All matter is composed of atoms, and atoms are composed of three smaller subatomic particles: protons, neutrons, and electrons. These three particles account for the mass and the charge of an atom. The Discovery of the Electron The first clue about the subatomic structure came at the end of the 19th century when J.J. Thomson discovered the electron using a cathode ray tube. This apparatus consisted of a sealed glass...
