Guide Wire Alignment

Guide wire alignment is the controlled positioning of a flexible wire within a biological passage or vessel to establish a safe, precise pathway for a catheter or other medical device. It works by maintaining the wire’s tip along the intended anatomical route while operators use imaging, resistance, and wire movement to correct its direction and prevent unwanted advancement. In vascular and minimally invasive procedures, accurate alignment supports catheter placement, targeted delivery, and access to narrow or complex regions. Studying this process connects anatomy, biomechanics, and medical-device design, helping improve procedural control, reproducibility, and patient safety.

Guide Wire Assisted Catheterization and Colored Dye Injection for Vascular Mapping of Monochorionic Twin Placentas

2011

Vascular mapping of monochorionic (MC) twin placentas after birth provides a means for detailed demonstration of vascular connections between the twins’ circulations. Imbalance of these connections is thought to play a pivotal role in the development of complications of MC twinning including twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome.

Source: Ricardo Mejia-Alvarez and Hussam Hikmat Jabbar, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI Hot-wire anemometers have a very short time-response, which makes them ideal to measure rapidly fluctuating phenomena such as turbulent flows. The purpose of this experiment is to demonstrate the use of hot-wire anemometry.

An automated myography method for force measurements in isolated mesenteric arteries is described. It employs a Mulvany-Halpern Auto Dual Wire Myograph 510A to determine responses to phenylephrine and extracellular calcium. The method allows consistent determination of isometric responses to agonists in small vessels of diameters of 60 - 300 μm, independently.

Extracellular Wire Tetrode Recording in Brain of Freely Walking Insects

We previously developed a technique for implanting tetrode wires into the central complex of cockroach brains that allows us to monitor activity in individual units of tethered cockroaches. Here we present a modified version of that technique that allows us to also record brain activity in freely moving insects.

Magnetic Field Due To A Thin Straight Wire

Consider an infinitely long straight wire carrying a current I. The magnetic field at point P at a distance a from the origin can be calculated using the Biot-Savart law. Consider a current element dx at a distance x from the origin. The current element makes an angle θ with the line joining dx and P. Using the Pythagorus theorum to express the distance between the current element and the point, the magnetic field due to the current element at point P can be estimated using Equation 1. The...
