Hydrophilic Properties

Hydrophilic properties describe a substance’s affinity for water, a defining feature that influences how biological molecules dissolve, interact, and organize in aqueous environments. Polar or charged chemical groups attract water molecules through hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions, producing hydration shells and often increasing solubility. In biology, these properties help determine the behavior of carbohydrates, nucleic acids, proteins, and membrane-associated molecules, including how they fold, transport solutes, and communicate with their surroundings. Understanding hydrophilicity supports studies of cellular structure and function and informs the design of biomaterials, drug-delivery systems, and laboratory methods that depend on controlled water interactions.

A Protocol for the Production of Gliadin-cyanoacrylate Nanoparticles for Hydrophilic Coating

2016

This article presents a protocol for the production of protein-based nanoparticles that changes the hydrophobic surface to hydrophilic. The produced nanoparticle is an assembly of gliadin-cyanoacrylate diblock copolymers. Spray coating with the produced nanoparticle changes the surface of target material to a hydrophilic surface.

We present a protocol to synthesize Janus microhydrogels composed entirely of the same base material, poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm), with a clearly compartmentalized structure base on the phase separation of a supersaturated NIPAAm monomer solution. The synthesized Janus microhydrogels show unique properties such as anisotropic thermo-responsiveness and organophilic/hydrophilic loading capability.

Physical and Chemical Properties of Matter

2020

The characteristics that enable us to distinguish one substance from another are called properties. Physical Properties of Matter A physical property is a characteristic of matter that is not associated with a change in its chemical composition. Familiar examples of physical properties include density, color, hardness, melting and boiling points, and electrical conductivity. We can observe some physical properties, such as density and color, without changing the physical state of the matter...
