Insect Bait Method

The Insect Bait Method is a biological sampling technique that uses an attractive food source or chemical cue to lure insects for observation, collection, or population assessment. Bait releases odors or other signals that guide target insects toward a trap or sampling location, where researchers can identify and count them under controlled conditions. This method supports studies of insect behavior, species distribution, community composition, and responses to environmental change. By standardizing bait type, placement, and exposure time, investigators can compare insect activity across habitats or experimental treatments and generate evidence for ecology, biodiversity monitoring, and pest management.

ELISA-Based Method to Analyze Interactions between Bait and Prey Proteins

2025

This video describes an ELISA-based technique that detects protein-protein interactions between two proteins by measuring the binding of the second protein to the immobilized first protein. The bound second protein is detected using specific antibodies labeled with an enzyme, such as horseradish peroxidase.

A Protocol for Phage Display and Affinity Selection Using Recombinant Protein Baits

Phage display is a powerful technique to capture proteins or protein moieties that interact with an immobilized molecule of interest. Once a decision of the type of phage cDNA library to create and screen has been made, the protocol described here permits efficient affinity selection leading to identification of interactors.

Osmoregulation in Insects

2019

Malpighian tubules are specialized structures found in the digestive systems of many arthropods, including most insects, that handle excretion and osmoregulation. The tubules are typically arranged in pairs and have a convoluted structure that increases their surface area. Malpighian tubules extend from the digestive tract, typically the area between the midgut and hindgut, into the hemolymph—a mixture of blood and interstitial fluid found in insects and other arthropods, as well as most...

Insect Puparium Removal: A Method for Pupal Investigation

2023

This article describes a technique to remove an insect’s puparium while keeping the inside pupa intact and therefore fit for further investigation. The example protocol shows the procedure with Drosophila guttifera; however, this technique is applicable to other Drosophila species.
