Parasite Detection Pcr

Parasite detection PCR is a molecular method that identifies parasite DNA in biological or environmental samples, providing a sensitive alternative to relying solely on microscopy or visible signs of infection. During repeated cycles of DNA denaturation, primer annealing, and polymerase-driven extension, primers targeting parasite-specific sequences amplify trace genetic material; the resulting product is detected by fluorescence in real-time PCR or by endpoint analysis. In biology, this approach supports parasite screening, species identification, prevalence studies, and monitoring of transmission in hosts or ecosystems. Its sequence-based specificity can reveal low-abundance or morphologically similar parasites, strengthening epidemiological research and laboratory diagnostics.

Fine Needle Aspiration is a technique, whereby cells are obtained from a lesion or organ using a thin needle. Aspirated material is smeared, stained and examined under a microscope for diagnosis or used for molecular biology, cytometry or in vitro analysis. It is cheap, simple, quick and causes minimal trauma.

Nested-PCR to Detect a Specific Viral Genomic Sequence

2025

This video describes nested polymerase chain reaction, a technique that consists of two sequential PCR amplification processes using two primer sets. The first set of primers is intended to anneal to sequences upstream of the second set, resulting in selective amplification of specific gene sequences. This PCR is more sensitive and specific than a normal PCR and is widely used as a detection technique for various diseases.
