Retina Thickness Measurement

Retina thickness measurement is the quantitative assessment of retinal structure, providing an indicator of tissue organization and changes associated with eye disease. In biology and vision research, optical coherence tomography uses reflected low-coherence light to generate cross-sectional images, allowing software to identify retinal boundaries and calculate the distance between tissue layers. Measurements can be compared across retinal regions, time points, or experimental groups to evaluate growth, degeneration, swelling, or treatment response. This noninvasive approach supports studies of retinal development, disease progression, neuroprotection, and therapeutic efficacy while linking microscopic structural changes to visual function.
