Chitin Adsorbent

A chitin adsorbent is a chitin-based material that captures dissolved substances on its surface, making it useful for separation and purification in chemistry. Its adsorption behavior arises from functional groups such as hydroxyl and acetamide groups, which interact with contaminants through hydrogen bonding, electrostatic attraction, and other surface interactions; performance depends on factors including pH, contact time, and adsorbent composition. Chitin adsorbents can remove dyes, metal ions, and other pollutants from aqueous solutions, supporting wastewater treatment and analytical sample preparation. Their renewable biological origin also makes them valuable models for developing lower-impact materials for environmental remediation.
