Molecular Database Construction

Molecular database construction is the systematic process of organizing chemical structures, properties, identifiers, and experimental information into a searchable digital resource. It typically involves collecting molecular records, standardizing representations such as formulas or structure files, removing duplicates, validating chemical consistency, and linking each entry to relevant metadata. In chemistry, these databases support compound identification, structure-based searching, reaction analysis, and comparison of measured or predicted properties. Well-designed collections also improve data interoperability and reproducibility, enabling researchers to integrate results from different sources, train computational models, and accelerate applications such as drug discovery, materials development, and reaction prediction.

Database Searching

2026

Effective research begins with the ability to navigate academic databases efficiently. Unlike general web search engines, scholarly databases are designed to index peer-reviewed articles, conference proceedings, and other credible academic publications. Developing a structured search strategy ensures that researchers can identify relevant, high-quality sources with precision. For example, when studying how sleep patterns relate to circadian rhythms in humans, researchers should move beyond...

2011

A thoracic oncology database was developed to serve as a comprehensive repository for clinical and laboratory data for the purposes of translational research. The database will serve translational cancer researchers within the Thoracic Oncology Research Program. This database is adaptable to other cancer models, as well as other human diseases.

Molecular Orbital Theory I

2020

Overview of Molecular Orbital Theory Molecular orbital theory describes the distribution of electrons in molecules in the same way as the distribution of electrons in atoms is described using atomic orbitals. Quantum mechanics describes the behavior of an electron in a molecule by a wave function, Ψ, analogous to the behavior in an atom. Just like electrons around isolated atoms, electrons around atoms in molecules are limited to discrete (quantized) energies. The region of space in which a...

Recombineering Homologous Recombination Constructs in Drosophila

2013

Homologous recombination techniques greatly advance Drosophila genetics by enabling the creation of molecularly precise mutations. The recent adoption of recombineering allows one to manipulate large pieces of DNA and transform them into Drosophila6. The methods presented here combine these techniques to rapidly generate large homologous recombination vectors.
