Holder Replacement

Holder replacement is a clinical procedure in which a worn, contaminated, or poorly fitting device holder is exchanged to maintain secure positioning, patient comfort, and reliable access to the supported medical device. The process typically involves assessing the device and surrounding skin, removing the existing holder without disrupting the device, applying a correctly sized replacement with appropriate tension, and confirming stable placement and unobstructed function. Proper technique helps reduce accidental displacement, pressure injury, skin irritation, and infection risk. Regular assessment and timely replacement are important in routine patient care, particularly when adhesives, straps, or support materials become loose, damaged, or soiled.

Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy

2025

Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy, also known as CRRT, is a procedural treatment for acute kidney injury (AKI) that gradually removes uremic toxins and fluids while maintaining acid-base balance and stabilizing electrolytes. It is particularly useful for hemodynamically unstable patients. Unlike intermittent hemodialysis, which is faster, CRRT provides a gentler approach over 24 hours, closely mimicking the function of natural kidneys. However, CRRT is not ideal for patients with...

The present work describes a novel experimental protocol that utilizes a 3D printed holder to enable high-resolution live cell imaging of enucleated globes. Through this protocol, the cellular calcium signaling activity in wounded corneal epithelium from ex vivo globes can be observed in real time.

Charles Taylor and John Marshall explain the utility of mathematical modeling for evaluating the effectiveness of population replacement strategy. Insight is given into how computational models can provide information on the population dynamics of mosquitoes and the spread of transposable elements through A. gambiae subspecies. The ethical considerations of releasing genetically modified mosquitoes into the wild are discussed.

Full-root Aortic Valve Replacement by Stentless Aortic Xenografts in Patients with Small Aortic Roots

Full-root aortic valve replacement by stentless aortic xenograft is a viable option in patients with small aortic roots. We describe, a technique for the full-root implantation of stentless aortic xenografts, with emphasis on the management of the proximal suture line and coronary anastomoses, and discuss its limitations and alternative options.
