Patient Education

Patient education is the process of providing people with understandable, relevant information and skills to support informed decisions about their health and care. In clinical settings, healthcare professionals assess a patient’s needs, explain conditions, treatments, medications, and self-care practices, then use communication and teach-back methods to confirm understanding and address barriers. Effective patient education can improve shared decision-making, treatment adherence, symptom management, and confidence in self-care. It also helps patients recognize when to seek further assistance, supports safer transitions between care settings, and strengthens collaboration among patients, families, and healthcare teams.
