Real-time Cell Recorder

A Real-time Cell Recorder is a live-cell imaging system that continuously documents cellular behavior as it occurs, preserving dynamic information that fixed, single-time-point assays cannot provide. It uses time-lapse microscopy to capture sequential images of cells maintained under controlled culture conditions, allowing researchers to track changes in morphology, movement, division, and interactions over time. In developmental biology, these recordings help link cell behavior to tissue formation, growth, and lineage progression while revealing transient events that may otherwise be missed. Quantitative analysis of the resulting image sequences can support measurements of developmental timing, cell fate, and responses to experimental conditions.

We present a method for collecting electrocorticographic signals for research purposes from humans who are undergoing invasive epilepsy monitoring. We show how to use the BCI2000 software platform for data collection, signal processing and stimulus presentation. Specifically, we demonstrate SIGFRIED, a BCI2000-based tool for real-time functional brain mapping.
