Astronomic Meridian

An astronomic meridian is an imaginary great circle on the celestial sphere that passes through the celestial poles and an observer’s zenith, providing a reference for locating and measuring celestial objects. As Earth rotates, stars and other objects appear to cross this meridian, and the timing and position of that transit support measurements of right ascension, altitude, and local sidereal time. In engineering, astronomic meridians guide telescope alignment, astronomical instrument calibration, navigation, and geodetic surveying. They also connect celestial observations with terrestrial reference frames, helping engineers establish precise orientation, position, and time.

In surveying, meridians are vital reference lines to measure directions and establish accurate land orientations. Meridians run from the north to the south poles, providing a stable framework for angular measurements and mapping. Meridians are fundamental in survey design, with the primary types being astronomic, magnetic, and assumed meridians. Each type offers distinct benefits and limitations, selected based on the project's scale and precision needs. The astronomic meridian is aligned with...

Alternative Therapy for Acute Exacerbation of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease: Moving Cupping Along Meridians

2024

This protocol presents a novel approach to alleviating the symptoms and improving the quality of life of patients with acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) by employing moving cupping along meridians therapy to stimulate the first sideline of the bladder meridian.

A Standardized Copper Bian-Stone Gua Sha Protocol for Treating Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in Human Subjects

2026

This protocol describes a standardized, step-by-step procedure for performing copper Bian-stone Gua Sha in human subjects diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome. The technique involves the application of a copper alloy scraper to specific meridian pathways (Governor Vessel and Bladder Meridian) and designated acupoints. Representative pre- and post-intervention observational data are included to illustrate the procedural workflow and data collection methods.

Light from astronomical objects must travel through the earth's turbulent atmosphere before it can be imaged by ground-based telescopes. To enable direct imaging at maximum theoretical angular resolution, advanced techniques such as those employed by the Robo-AO adaptive-optics system must be used.

Measuring Reaction Time and Donders' Method of Subtraction

Source: Laboratory of Jonathan Flombaum—Johns Hopkins University The ambition of experimental psychology is to characterize the mental events that support the human ability to solve problems, perceive the world, and turn thoughts into words and sentences. But people cannot see or feel those mental events; they cannot be weighed, combined in test tubes, or grown in a dish. Wanting to study mental life, nonetheless, Franciscus Donders, a Dutch ophthalmologist in the early 1800s, came up with a...
