Signal Transmission Analysis

Signal transmission analysis is the engineering study of how electrical, optical, or wireless signals travel through a communication channel and how transmission conditions affect their integrity. It examines signal behavior through parameters such as attenuation, distortion, noise, bandwidth, impedance, and propagation delay, using measurements or mathematical models to compare the transmitted and received waveforms. Engineers apply this analysis to evaluate cables, fiber-optic links, antennas, and electronic networks, identify sources of signal degradation, and guide system design. The results support reliable data transfer, efficient use of channel capacity, and improved performance across telecommunications, control systems, instrumentation, and digital electronics.

2017

We demonstrate the transmission of multiple independent signals through a multimode fiber using wavefront shaping employing a single spatial light modulator. By modulating the wavefront for each signal individually, spatially separated foci are transmitted. Potential applications are multiplexed data transfer in communications engineering and endoscopic light delivery in biophotonics.

Design of Transmission Shafts - Stress Analysis

2024

Designing a transmission shaft requires a thorough understanding of the stresses induced by bending moments and torques, especially in systems where power is transferred through gears. These forces create force-couple systems at the centers of the shaft's cross-sections, leading to both transverse and torsional loading. Although shearing stresses from transverse loads are typically smaller than those from torques and are often overlooked, the significant normal stresses from these loads...

Source: Peiman Shahbeigi-Roodposhti and Sina Shahbazmohamadi, Biomedical Engineering Department, University of Connecticut, Storrs, Connecticut An electrocardiograph is a graph recorded by electric potential changes occurring between electrodes placed on a patient's torso to demonstrate cardiac activity. An ECG signal tracks heart rhythm and many cardiac diseases, such as poor blood flow to the heart and structural abnormalities. The action potential created by contractions of the heart wall...

Small-Signal Analysis of MOSFET Amplifiers

2025

In small-signal analysis, a MOSFET transistor amplifier acts as a linear amplifier when operating in its saturation region. The gate-to-source voltage (VGS) of the MOSFET is the sum of the DC biasing voltage and the small time-varying input signal. This combination sets up the operating point and modulates the drain current (ID) that flows from the drain to the source. When a small AC signal is superimposed on the DC bias voltage at the gate, the instantaneous drain current comprises three...
