Seed Damage Assessment

Seed damage assessment is the systematic evaluation of physical, physiological, and biological injury in seeds, providing evidence of quality, viability, and potential effects on plant establishment. It works by examining indicators such as cracks, bruising, discoloration, insect injury, moisture-related deterioration, and reduced germination capacity through visual inspection and controlled germination or viability tests. In environmental research, these assessments help determine how storage conditions, pollutants, drought, heat, handling, or pests affect seed performance. The results support seed conservation, habitat restoration, agricultural management, and environmental stress monitoring, while helping researchers distinguish poor emergence caused by seed damage from limitations in the surrounding environment.

Hematoxylin and Eosin Staining to Assess Colon Damage in DSS-Induced Colitis

This video demonstrates the hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining method to evaluate colon damage in a murine model of DSS-induced colitis — an inflammatory bowel disease. Upon isolating the colon from a DSS-treated mouse and obtaining sections of the tissue, H&E staining of the sections helps identify the inflammation-mediated tissue damage.

Assessing DNA Damage Foci: To Identify Radiation-Induced DNA Damage Foci in Cancer Cell Line Using Immunofluorescence Staining

2023

This video describes a protocol to detect radiation-induced DNA repair foci in the colon cancer cell lines using immunofluorescence staining. DNA repair proteins get activated at the DNA damage site; therefore, we can detect them using specific antibodies and visualize them under a fluorescence microscope.

Seed Structure and Early Development of the Sporophyte

2020

Seed structures are composed of a protective seed coat surrounding a plant embryo, and a food store for the developing embryo. The embryo contains the precursor tissues for leaves, stem, and roots. The endosperm and cotyledons—seed leaves—act as the food reserves for the growing embryo. The embryo contains a double set of chromosomes, one set from each parent. Fertilization of the haploid egg by the haploid sperm gives rise to the zygote, which develops into the embryo. The endosperm is a...
