Temperature Correction

Temperature correction is the adjustment of a measured value to account for the effect of temperature, allowing data collected under different conditions to be compared reliably. It uses a reference temperature and a temperature coefficient, calibration relationship, or compensation equation to estimate how the measured quantity would change under standardized conditions. In environmental science, temperature correction supports accurate measurements of water conductivity, pH, dissolved oxygen, gas volume, and sensor output. Applying these adjustments improves the quality of environmental monitoring, helps distinguish true changes from temperature-driven variation, and strengthens comparisons across locations, seasons, and sampling periods.

Distance Corrections

2025

To achieve precise distance measurements, especially in surveying and construction, certain corrections must be applied to account for potential sources of error like the standardization errors, temperature variations, and slope adjustments.Standardization error emerges when measurement equipment undergoes changes, such as wear, repairs, or weather impacts. To address this, surveyors compare the equipment’s readings to a standard. This process identifies any deviation that might lead to...

Power Factor Correction

The power transmission to a factory involves the transfer of apparent power, a combination of active and reactive power. The power factor measures how effectively electrical power is converted into useful work output. The ratio of the real power (KW) that does the work to the apparent power (KVA) supplied to the circuit. A poor power factor means the inductive electrical load absorbs more reactive power, causing a low lagging power factor. This results in large voltage drops across the load...

Source: Laboratory of Dr. Dana Lashley - College of William and Mary Demonstration by: Matt Smith When new bonds are formed in the course of a chemical reaction, it requires that the involved species (atoms or molecules) come in very close proximity and collide into one another. The collisions between these species are more frequent and effective the higher the speed at which these molecules are moving. A widely used rule of thumb, which has its roots in the Arrhenius equation1, states that...
