Nitrate Phosphate

Nitrate and phosphate are inorganic forms of nitrogen and phosphorus that serve as essential nutrients in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. In environmental systems, these compounds enter water through natural cycling, fertilizer runoff, wastewater, and soil erosion; when concentrations become excessive, they stimulate algal and plant growth, and the decomposition of resulting biomass can reduce dissolved oxygen through microbial respiration. Measuring nitrate and phosphate helps assess water quality, identify nutrient pollution, and evaluate eutrophication risks. Their analysis supports watershed management, wastewater treatment, agricultural planning, and strategies to protect aquatic biodiversity and ecosystem function.

Phosphate Buffer

2024

The phosphate buffer system is a critical biological mechanism for maintaining pH stability in the body. This system operates primarily through two components: sodium dihydrogen phosphate (NaH2PO4), which acts as a weak acid, and sodium hydrogen phosphate (Na2HPO4), which serves as a weak base. Sodium dihydrogen phosphate does not fully dissociate in neutral or acidic solutions. When a strong base, such as sodium hydroxide (NaOH), is introduced into the solution, sodium dihydrogen phosphate...

Electrophilic Aromatic Substitution: Nitration of Benzene

2025

The nitration of benzene is an example of an electrophilic aromatic substitution reaction. It involves the formation of a very powerful electrophile, the nitronium ion, which is linear in shape. The reaction occurs through the interaction of two strong acids, sulfuric and nitric acid. Sulfuric acid is stronger and protonates the nitric acid on the hydroxyl group, followed by loss of water molecule, generating the nitronium ion. The nitronium ion acts as an electrophile that reacts with...

Antianginal Drugs: Nitrates and β-Blockers

In cardiovascular health, antianginal drugs combat angina pectoris — a condition marked by chest pain owing to diminished blood flow to the heart. Organic nitrates, such as nitroglycerin, play a pivotal role. Once metabolized, they liberate nitric oxide, a molecular marvel. Nitric oxide triggers guanylyl cyclase and augments cGMP production. This biochemical cascade orchestrates the relaxation of vascular smooth muscles, ushering in vasodilation and enhancing coronary blood flow. Administered...

Synthesis and Exfoliation of Discotic Zirconium Phosphates to Obtain Colloidal Liquid Crystals

2016

A two dimensional model material of discotic zirconium phosphate was developed. The inorganic crystal with lamellar structure was synthesized by hydrothermal, reflux, and microwave-assisted methods. On exfoliation with organic molecules, layered crystals can be converted to monolayers, and nematic liquid crystal phase was formed at sufficient concentration of monolayers.

Roles of Electrolytes: Calcium and Phosphate

2024

Calcium and phosphate are essential electrolytes in the human body, with calcium being the most abundant mineral. Around 99% of the body's calcium is stored in the skeleton and teeth, forming a crystal lattice of mineral salts in combination with phosphates. Calcium plays crucial roles in various bodily functions such as blood clotting, neurotransmitter release, muscle tone maintenance, and nervous and muscle tissue excitability. The calcium concentration in blood plasma is primarily regulated...
