Employee Compensation

Employee compensation is the total financial and nonfinancial value an organization provides to employees in exchange for their work, including wages, salaries, bonuses, benefits, and equity awards. In finance, compensation is managed through pay structures, budgeting, payroll processes, tax considerations, and incentive plans that align employee rewards with performance, organizational goals, and labor-market conditions. Effective compensation planning helps organizations control labor costs, attract and retain talent, support equity and compliance, and evaluate how workforce investments affect profitability and long-term growth. Its analysis also informs forecasting, financial reporting, and strategic decisions about hiring, promotion, and resource allocation.
