Square Root Transformation

Square root transformation is a mathematical method that replaces each nonnegative value with its square root to make data distributions easier to analyze. Because the square-root function compresses large observations more than small ones while preserving their order, it can reduce right skew and moderate the influence of extreme values; unlike logarithmic transformation, it also accommodates zero values. In finance, analysts may apply it to transaction amounts, trading volume, counts, or other highly variable measures before visualization, regression, or statistical modeling. The transformed scale can improve model fit and interpretation, but results must be translated back carefully for financial decision-making.
