Fluorescent Plasma Reagent

A fluorescent plasma reagent is a laboratory reagent designed to detect or measure target molecules in plasma by producing a visible fluorescent signal, making otherwise difficult-to-see immune or infection-related interactions measurable. It works when a fluorophore attached to an antibody, antigen, or other binding molecule is excited at a specific wavelength and emits light at a longer wavelength after binding its target or participating in an assay. These reagents support immunofluorescence, flow cytometry, microscopy, and fluorescence-based immunoassays for detecting antibodies, antigens, immune complexes, or pathogen-associated markers. By enabling signal-based detection, they aid diagnostic research, host-pathogen studies, and quantitative comparison of immune responses.

Source: Laboratory of Dr. Dana Lashley - College of William and Mary Demonstrated by: Timothy Beck and Lucas Arney Many reactions in organic chemistry are moisture-sensitive and must be carried out under careful exclusion of water. In these cases the reagents have a high affinity to react with water from the atmosphere and if left exposed the desired reaction will not take place or give poor yields, because the reactants are chemically altered. In order to prevent undesired reactions with H2O...

An experimental setup was created for the helium-operated kHz frequency plasma jet. The setup includes a cage for the plasma power supply and jet and an in-house built reactor to monitor plasma-induced reactive species without the interference of the ambient atmosphere.

EDTA: Auxiliary Complexing Reagents

2024

EDTA titrations are usually carried out in highly basic conditions, where the fully deprotonated form of EDTA, Y4−, actively complexes with the free metal ions in the solution. Several metal ions precipitate as hydrous oxide (hydroxides, oxides, or oxyhydroxides) under these conditions, lowering the concentration of free metal ions in the solution. For this reason, auxiliary complexing agents or ligands such as ammonia, tartrate, citrate, or triethanolamine are used in EDTA titrations to...
