Simplifying Fractions

Simplifying fractions is the mathematical process of rewriting a fraction in an equivalent form with the smallest possible whole-number numerator and denominator. It works by dividing both parts by their greatest common factor, which preserves the fraction’s value while removing shared factors; prime factorization can help identify this divisor. A simplified fraction makes numerical relationships easier to interpret, compare, and use in further calculations. This skill supports operations with rational numbers, algebraic expressions, ratios, proportions, and probability, and provides a foundation for solving equations and communicating mathematical results clearly.

2013

This paper demonstrates a protocol for recasting experimental simplified model limits into conservative and aggressive limits on an arbitrary new physics model. Publicly available LHC experimental results can be recast in this manner into limits on almost any new physics model with a supersymmetry-like signature.

Fractional Distillation

2023

Source: Laboratory of Dr. Nicholas Leadbeater — University of Connecticut Distillation is perhaps the most common laboratory technique employed by chemists for the purification of organic liquids. Compounds in a mixture with different boiling points separate into individual components when the mixture is carefully distilled. The two main types of distillation are "simple distillation" and "fractional distillation", and both are widely used in organic chemistry laboratories. Simple distillation...

Application of Simplified Stent-bridging Pancreaticogastrostomy in Open Pancreaticoduodenectomy

2026

Here, we present the stent-bridging pancreaticogastrostomy (PG) technique, which uses a stent to bridge the remnant pancreas to the stomach during open pancreaticoduodenectomy. The stent-bridging PG aims to simplify the anastomosis, achieve complete diversion of pancreatic juice, and minimize manipulation of the pancreatic remnant.

Fast and Simplified Method for High Through-put Isolation of miRNA from Highly Purified High Density Lipoprotein

MicroRNAs play an important regulatory role and are emerging as novel therapeutic targets for various human diseases. It has been shown that miRNAs are carried in high density lipoproteins. We have developed a simplified method to rapidly isolate purified HDL suitable for miRNA analysis from human plasma.

Mixtures of Gases: Dalton's Law of Partial Pressures and Mole Fractions

2020

Unless individual gases chemically react with each other, the individual gases in a mixture of gases do not affect each other’s pressure. Each gas in a mixture exerts the same pressure that it would exert if it were present alone in the container. The pressure exerted by each individual gas in a mixture is called its partial pressure. This means that in a mixture containing three different gases A, B, and C, if PA is the partial pressure of gas A; PB is the partial pressure of gas B; PC is the...
