Eat Volume

EAT volume is the amount of epicardial adipose tissue, the fat depot located between the heart muscle and the outer pericardial layer, and it is an important marker of cardiometabolic health. Clinicians and researchers typically quantify it from cardiac computed tomography or magnetic resonance images by identifying and segmenting fat around the heart, often alongside measures of tissue density and distribution. Excess EAT volume may reflect visceral adiposity and contribute to local inflammation through the release of cytokines and other signaling molecules, potentially affecting coronary arteries and cardiac function. Its measurement supports cardiovascular risk assessment, disease research, and evaluation of interventions targeting obesity and metabolic dysfunction.

2025

Binge eating disorder is a significant mental health condition characterized by recurrent episodes of excessive food consumption within a short period, accompanied by a perceived loss of control over eating behavior. Unlike occasional overeating, binge eating disorder is marked by distressing emotions such as guilt, shame, and anxiety following binge episodes. The disorder affects individuals across different ages and backgrounds, with profound implications for physical and psychological...

2014

Dietary fat content influences both energy intake and body fat composition in mammals. By examining rats’ preference for high fat food in a series of choice experiments, it is possible to test genetic differences and pharmacological interventions on their preference for high fat food.

Constant Volume Calorimetry

2020

Calorimeters are useful to determine the heat released or absorbed by a chemical reaction. Coffee cup calorimeters are designed to operate at constant (atmospheric) pressure and are convenient to measure heat flow (or enthalpy change) accompanying processes that occur in solution at constant pressure. A different type of calorimeter that operates at constant volume, colloquially known as a bomb calorimeter, is used to measure the energy produced by reactions that yield large amounts of heat and...

Density and Volume

Density and VolumeDensity and volume are important properties that help us understand the nature of matter. Volume measures the amount of space an object occupies, while density describes how much mass is in a given volume. These concepts explain why some objects float while others sink and how different materials behave in various environments.Science and Engineering Practices (SEP): Developing and Using ModelsYou can explore density and volume by creating models that demonstrate these...
