Inguinal Exploration

Inguinal exploration is a surgical procedure used to examine structures within the groin, especially the inguinal canal, when clinicians need to identify or treat a hernia, mass, injury, or other abnormality. Through a carefully placed groin incision, the surgeon separates tissue layers, evaluates the abdominal wall and canal, and may trace or reduce a hernia sac while protecting the spermatic cord, blood vessels, and nerves. The findings can guide hernia repair, management of undescended testes or groin masses, and assessment of uncertain anatomy, making the procedure valuable for diagnosis, treatment planning, and prevention of complications.

A technique for performing intravital microscopy of the inguinal lymph node (LN) is outlined. Such technique allows for real-time, in vivo study of the lymph node microvasculature and structure both during homeostasis and infection. This technique can be adapted to cell trafficking studies and to other lymph node sites.

In this video, we demonstrate the technique to image the inguinal lymph node in a mouse model using ultra-high-frequency ultrasound imaging. This non-invasive imaging technique allows the monitoring of the change in lymph node volume in the animal over time.

Harvesting an Inguinal Draining Lymph Node from a Murine Model

This video demonstrates the surgical isolation procedure of the inguinal draining lymph node from a mouse model. Incision of the abdominal region provides access to the inguinal lymph node, which is surgically harvested. The harvested translucent inguinal lymph node can be used for immunological studies.

This protocol describes the method of determining basal and forskolin-stimulated lipolysis in inguinal fat pads obtained from normal chow diet (NCD) or high fat diet (HFD) ± capsaicin fed wild type mice. As an index for lipolysis, glycerol release was measured from inguinal adipose fat pads.
