Karnofsky Performance Status

The Karnofsky Performance Status (KPS) is a standardized measure of a patient’s functional ability, widely used in medicine to describe how illness affects daily life and independence. It assigns scores from 0 to 100 in 10-point increments, based on the person’s capacity to perform normal activities, work, provide self-care, or remain dependent on assistance, with 0 representing death. Clinicians use KPS to assess disease burden, estimate prognosis, monitor changes over time, and evaluate suitability for treatments or clinical trials, particularly in oncology. Consistent scoring also supports communication and comparison across clinical studies.

Marcia's Theory of Identity Status

James Marcia's identity status model provides a framework for understanding how adolescents navigate identity formation through varying degrees of exploration and commitment. Marcia's model builds on Erik Erikson's theories of psychosocial development, focusing specifically on how adolescents reconcile individual aspirations with societal expectations. His model describes identity formation as a dynamic process where adolescents move between different states depending on their level of...

Chronic infection with soil-transmitted helminths (STHs) causes malabsorption, stunting, and wasting in the growing child. Hence, it is plausible that these infections also reduce the physical fitness of children. Here, we visualize two techniques for the diagnosis of STHs and the 20-meter shuttle run test for assessing children's physical fitness.
