Multilayered Scaffolds

Multilayered scaffolds are engineered biomaterial constructs with distinct layers that reproduce the structural and functional organization of native tissues, making them important in regenerative medicine. Their design combines materials, pore structures, mechanical properties, and biochemical cues within separate but integrated regions, enabling each layer to support a specific cell population or tissue interface. These scaffolds can guide cell adhesion, migration, proliferation, and differentiation while promoting controlled transport of nutrients and waste. Applications include repair of osteochondral defects, skin, bone, vascular, and other complex tissues, where matching multiple tissue environments may improve integration, healing, and long-term function.
